The Rossoneri appear set to tie the 27-year-old down to a new deal as reports that talks have progressed significantly and the parties are close to an agreement. Hernandez is expected to sign a deal worth around €6.5 million (£5m/$7m) per year until 2029.

Hernandez's importance to Milan this season was best summed up by his display in the Supercoppa Italiana final victory against city rivals Inter on Monday, as he scored directly from a free-kick to give his side a chance after they fell 2-0 down and then set up Christian Pulisic's equaliser. They then scored a stoppage time winner through Rafael Leao.
