SEC Record in NCAA Tournament (Updated After Elite 8)

The 2025 NCAA tournament is underway, and there are many eyes on how this year's SEC teams perform.

On Selection Sunday the conference set a men's record for most teams chosen to participate in the NCAA tournament field, with a whopping 14 schools making it onto the bracket. The selections ranged from squads that have dominated all year, such as Auburn and Florida, to less sure bets like Arkansas and Texas.

The SEC is clearly well-represented in March Madness. How those teams perform is a different matter entirely. As every fan knows, anything can happen in the NCAA tournament. This year could very well end up an SEC palooza in the late rounds— or the conference's representation could end before the Sweet 16. The sports world has no idea what's in store, and that's why March Madness is so beloved.

With NCAA tournament play underway, here's how the SEC teams are faring.

SEC Record in NCAA Tournament After Elite Eight

With the Elite Eight in the books, the SEC's overall record is 21-12. The conference went 8-6 in the first round, followed by a 7-1 performance in the round of 32 and a 4-3 showing in the Sweet 16. In the Elite Eight, the SEC went 2-2.

The conference's 21 wins in a single tournament is a new NCAA record.

What SEC Teams Are Still Alive?

There are two SEC teams still dancing as the tournament enters the Final Four. Those teams are No. 1 Florida and No. 1 Auburn.

SEC Final Four Schedule

Below you'll find the schedule for the two SEC teams in the Final Four, set to take place on Saturday, April 5 in San Antonio. With the way the bracket shook out Florida will battle Auburn for a place in the NCAA championship game; there will be no All-SEC title game this year.

Biggest Wins and Most Disappointing Losses

Florida and Auburn both pulled off huge wins in the Elite Eight to move onto the penultimate round of the 2025 NCAA tournament. The Gators battled back to defeat Texas Tech in a genuinely epic comeback led by Walter Clayton Jr., who has electrified all tourney. Auburn, inspired by Johni Broome's heroics, took advantage of a cold Michigan State start and held off the Spartans long enough to move on.

Alabama and Tennessee, on the other hand, both disappointed. The Crimson Tide regressed to the mean after riding hot hands up and down the roster to the Elite Eight and couldn't overcome the sheer talent of Duke. The Volunteers had a nightmarish first half against Houston that they were unable to recover from. A loss is always tough but these performances hurt a little more.

How the SEC Compares to Other Conferences in the 2025 NCAA Tournament

As previously noted the SEC set an NCAA record for most wins by a conference in a single tournament with the Elite Eight wins, so the SEC has something to boast about already. Generally speaking, the 21-12 record is on par with the Big 12's 13-6 and the Big Ten's 13-7 records. It is also a big leg up on the ACC (5-3) and the Big East (4-5).
